This handtied floral design was created eleven days ago, using British grown alstroemeria with hydrangeas cut from the garden. The alstroemeria have opened up and are showing good strong colour, the foliage is still green and turgid, the stamen are still intact and the stems are a green and firm. Now fully open, the alstroemeria flowers have changed their form from triangular and curving shapes to large round almost spherical shaped blooms, these work well with the hydrangeas that are also round circular forms (this variety is a lace cap, unlike the usually seen mop-head varieties). The bright bold colour of the alstroemeria contrasts with the muted mottled colours of the hydrangea. This design is inspirational in the studio, it is evokes seasonality and drives the availability and versatility of British grown flowers.
